Babban mahimmancin ƙirar RMS ya haɗa da waɗannan abubuwa:

Kafin mu tattauna tsarin RMS, muna buƙatar tattauna waɗannan sharuɗɗan:
- Matsi Mai Ma'auni da Matsi Mai Cikakken Bayani
- Girman Daidaitacce da Girman Ainihin
Ana auna matsin lamba mai cikakken ƙarfi dangane da sifili mai cikakken ƙarfi. Duk lissafin da ya shafi dokokin iskar gas yana buƙatar matsin lamba (da zafin jiki) ya kasance a cikin raka'a mai cikakken ƙarfi.
Matsi a yanayi shine matsin lamba a cikin iskar da ke kewaye a - ko kuma "kusa" da - saman duniya. Matsi a yanayi ya dogara da zafin jiki da tsayin da ke sama da matakin teku. Matsakaicin Matsi a Yanayi shine 14.696 Psi (sanduna 1.01325).
Sau da yawa ana amfani da ma'aunin aunawa don auna bambancin matsin lamba tsakanin tsarin da yanayin da ke kewaye. Wannan matsin lamba galibi ana kiransa matsin lamba na ma'aunin kuma ana iya bayyana shi kamar haka:

Matsakaicin Girma yana nuna yawan iskar gas a cikin Yanayin Daidaitacce (yanayin zafin jiki da yanayin zafin jiki na yau da kullun), yayin da Ainihin Girman yana nuna girma a cikin Yanayin Aiki.
A cikin masana'antu da kasuwanci, sharuɗɗan da aka saba amfani da su don zafin jiki da matsin lamba sau da yawa suna da mahimmanci don ayyana yanayin ma'auni don bayyana yawan iskar gas da ruwa da adadi masu alaƙa kamar ƙimar kwararar volumetric. A tsarin RMS, yawanci muna amfani da ƙimar kwarara maimakon girma. A wannan yanayin, ana iya maye gurbin girman Vm da Vb da ƙimar kwarara Qm da Qb.
